Climate change is happening, humans are causing it, and I think this is perhaps the most serious environmental issue facing us.

– Bill Nye

As a child, I always wondered if it would snow in my city. In fact, I wished for it to happen every year, but Delhi, located in the sub-tropics, could never witness a temperature lower than the freezing point, and that was it. Climate change was yet to show its true colours.

On 7th February 2019, a slightly windy Thursday, my childhood wish came true. There was a violent hailstorm in Delhi and the neighbouring regions, which left a white blanket of hail all over, and the pictures speak for themselves. The only difference here is, when it actually happened, it dawned over me: Climate change is real, and it is happening right now. When I saw my streets starkly white and foggy, I realized this is catastrophic, and this is not how it is supposed to be.

Climate Change is a global crisis that our planet is facing as a consequence of our selfish and callous actions. Here are a few ways through which you can do your bit to reduce it!

 1. Reduce Carbon Emissions

It is essential to bring down the carbon emissions by a minimum of 45% to avoid the urgent and irreversible threat to humankind, that is climate change. This can be done by reducing the amount of carbon emissions made by vehicles, industries and the burning of fossil fuels. According to climate scientists, our dependency on coal should be 0% by 2050, and the best way to achieve this monumental ambition is to start out small, but more importantly start out now.

 2. Renewable Energy for the win!

Investing in renewable sources of energy not only reduces your carbon footprint but also can be cost-effective, thanks to the innovative technologies that are being developed to make it more affordable and accessible.

Some studies also claim that by 2050, almost 100% of the energy requirements of the planet can be met by renewable sources of energy, as long as the leadership and governing bodies work effectively to bring this change!

 3. The greener the better

A report recommends adding almost 4 million square miles of forests by the middle of the 21st century, which is roughly the size of Canada!Rapid Afforestation to increase the overall green cover across the globe can be a viable solution to a calamitic climate change that is getting worse day by day, and also have positive effects over the overall health and well-being of the inhabitants.

Climate Change is a consequence of our human behaviour, and hence, it can be delayed if not completely stopped through our actions.
